Headphone Diaries – July 20th, 1991

It’s new wave! It’s goth!

The Psychedelic Furs were a new wave that I pretty much only remember for doing the Pretty in Pink title song. And yet, somewhere around 1991, they got sort of gothy. You’d probably call it darkwave, if you were one of those people who believe in genre categorizations, which I don’t.

Personally, I think it’s their best album and one of those albums that no one’s heard but probably should. I wouldn’t claim that it’s necessarily a great album that will last through the ages, but it’s a sadly unsung album. With songs like “Here She Comes” and “World Outside” they established a similar vibe to groups like Sisters of Mercy or The Mission UK.

Did it age well? The production has stood up fairly well.

Should this go on your iPod? It’s the perfect fit for your Vampire: the Masquerade playlist.
